High School Transition Coaching
UIC Transition Coaching through High School Partnerships
High School Partnerships were initially established with two Chicago Public Schools (CPS) high schools in Spring 2015: North-Grand High School and Carver Military Academy. New high school partnerships proudly include Chicago Math and Science Academy Eric Solorio High School, Fenton High School, Intrinsic Academy, and Nicholas Senn High School.
UIC Transition coaching provides students with the opportunity to develop a positive rapport with their designated coach, or a coach within the Office of First-Year Initiatives.
Providing support before college Heading link
UIC Transition Coaches work in a number of Chicagoland high schools to help prepare students for their post-secondary journey. Through frequent visits and workshops, Transition Coaches offer support in the following areas:
- College Match and Fit
- College Application review
- FAFSA completion assistance
- Award Letter review
- UIC Admissions checklist review & support
- UIC Summer College consultation
Coaches provide a broad range of support intentionally designed to help students navigate the college landscape. Transition Coaches will continue to support students not only through their first year, but throughout their academic career at UIC. Students will work with a professional transition coach throughout the academic year in order to promote and refer on-campus resources as well as further develop and enhance skills pertinent to academic success. Importantly, students will have direct access to their coaches at any time.
